Aiming for Sustainability
| About Manila Water | 2008 Highlights | Strategic Initiatives | Financial Highlights | Contact | Ayala's public utility subsidiary, Manila Water Company, Inc., was formed in response to a national water crisis in 1995. Two years later, it was awarded the operation of the privatized water system for Metro Manila's East Zone.
Manila Water immediately launched an aggressive program to improve the water distribution network in its concession area: fixing leaks, restoring meters, and regularizing what had been illegal connections.
The company continues constantly to rehabilitate, upgrade and expand the network, ensuring delivery of 387 million cubic meters of potable water to over one million households and to thousands of industries and businesses in the East Zone. It now reaches 99 percent of the total served population in the central distribution area, providing water access 24 hours a day. It has also reduced systems losses from 63 percent in 1997 to 19.6 percent in 2008.
As its undertakings affect millions of lives on a daily basis, Manila Water strives to fulfill its role as a good corporate citizen. Its initiatives include the "Tubig Para sa Barangay," or "Water for the Community," a program that has given more than 1.5 million people in low-income communities access to a 24-hour supply of clean, potable and affordable water.
